Billy Ray Cyrus Comments On His GQ Interview

Billy Ray Cyrus has been in some hot water during the past week for his revealing interview with GQ magazine, where he said he was “scared” for daughter Miley Cyrus and blames the Disney show Hannah Montana for tearing his family apart.

Cyrus spoke to PEOPLE, telling the magazine he’s “mending” his family after the GQ interview. He said that his interview was “explosive” and added, “My family is the most important thing I have, and we are working together to make sure our future is stronger and healthier.”
During the controversial interview, Miley’s father blamed his daughter’s Disney show, which sky-rocketed her to fame, for his family’s trouble. “I hate to say it, but yes, I do. I’d take it back in a second,” he said about the show.
Billy Ray also mentioned how he was worried about the people that are surrounding his 18 year old daughter. He said, “I’m scared for her. She’s got a lot of people around her that’s putting her in a great deal of danger. I want to get her sheltered from the storm.”
The interview didn’t sit so well with Miley, who reportedly forced Billy Ray to cancel his appearance on The View on Wednesday in fear that he would reveal too much again.

While a week has gone by and he may not be on the best of terms with his famous daughter, he’s now trying to patch up the damage that has been done.
“It is all a learning process, and we thank everyone for their support and respect of our privacy as we sort through very important family issues,” he tells PEOPLE. He continued, “It is very important to me to work on mending my family right now.”
