Soon the "Glee" cast may not only be breaking chart records with covers of pop hits and oldies, but also original tracks. According a press release from Columbia Records, the label behind "Glee: The Music," the Fox show's Mar. 15 episode will feature two original tracks, titled "Loser Like Me" and "Get It Right."
While "Get It Right" is described as a ballad sung by Lea Michele, "Loser Like Me" sees the whole cast collaborating. The song was co-written by Max Martin, most recently known as the co-producer of Britney Spears' upcoming album, "Femme Fatale." Both songs will be featured on "Glee: The Music, Volume 5," set for release Mar. 8.
As Billboard reported last week, the original songs featured this season could lead to more extensive placement down the road. In fact, the show's music supervisor, PJ Bloom, stated at a Guild of Music Supervisors awards ceremony and brunch held Feb. 13 that there may be a "Glee" episode devoted entirely to original music during the show's third season. If it happened, the episode would most likely be based around a class assignment in which each chorus member would be tasked with composing an original song, Bloom said.
As expected, Gwyneth Paltrow is featured alongside Matthew Morrison on a cover of Prince's "Kiss," in addition to Fleetwood Mac classic "Landslide" and Joan Jett's "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)." Paltrow's character Holly Holiday returns to the show March 8.
Just last week, the "Glee" cast broke Elvis' record for the most chart entries on Billboard's Hot 100, with 113 songs on the chart. In last week's episode of "Glee," the New Directions put their own twist on the work of Justin Bieber.
