Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Blasts Into Top 10 of Mainstream Top 40

After storming Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 chart last week with the highest plays total for a debuting song in the list's 18-year history, Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" this week becomes one of just eight tracks to reach the top 10 in a mere two weeks.

The first single and title track from Lady Gaga's third studio album charges 14-6 with Greatest Gainer honors (6,813 plays, up 47%) on the Nielsen BDS-based radio airplay survey.

"Born" made additional historic headlines last week as the 1,000th Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 upon its debut at the summit.

The song joins Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" as the only titles since 2004 to reach the Mainstream Top 40 top bracket in just two weeks.   The other six tracks to hit the top 10 on the charts are Eminem's "Just Lose It" (2004), 'N Sync's "Pop" (2001), the Rembrandt's "I'll Be There for You (1995), Mariah Carey's "Dreamlover (1993) and Janet Jackson's "That's the Way Love Goes" (1993). 

Rising 14-6, "Born" registers the highest second-week Mainstream Top 40 rank since Mariah Carey's "Dreamlover" rocketed 12-4 in its second frame. "Born" likewise trails only "Dreamlover" for highest debut in the chart's archives.

Notably, "Born" bowed after just three days of airplay. With its second-week advance, the song has totaled 11,415 plays in its first 10 days of availability.

"Dreamlover," however, fell shy of reaching Mainstream Top 40 after its first week at radio. While the song logged 368 plays in its first week (ending Aug. 7, 1993), it did not debut until the following week, when it increased by 429% to 1,945 plays.

(The Mainstream Top 40 panel comprised 69 reporters at the time "Dreamlover" charted. As of this week, 129 stations contribute to the survey, allowing for significantly higher present-day weekly airplay sums).
